What Love wants?

The Same Old Story

On the top of a cliff, beside the sea, she did reside,

No one ever saw her, neither the sun nor the tide,

Her abode so desolate yet peaceful & full of mystery,

For all that was known of her – she was the daughter of “Bliss” and “Misery”.

“Love” as she was called was wanted by all,

The ones who despised her only feared they would deeply fall.

Some tried to cross the sea but drowned midway,

And those who made it had no strength to stay.

Every night she would gaze at the sky,

Wondering if it seemed the same – far and wide.

Curiosity unmatched and adventurous to the core,

She ran away alone on a night unsure.

With no moonlight to guide her, not a star in sight,

She set off alone in the dead of night.

She piled up pieces of wood and made a raft,

Got in and sailed towards an island’s path.

The journey made her discover much more,

As wonders and mysteries lay in waves’ roar.

Amazed by the beauty, she moved ahead,

Until a ship appeared on the water, widespread.

A ship so giant, with four men within,

Each with a different charm, each so fine.

One had a smile, the brightest of all,

Pride” was his name, so noble and tall.

Next stood a man, sturdy and grand,

Strength” as he was called, with power in hand.

Beside him stood one, sharp and wise,

Knowledge” he was, with his clever eyes.

And last, unseen, silent and still,

Was a man, sitting in the corner who watched everyone all this while.

Awestruck by her beauty rare,

They tried to win her heart with care.

They called her aboard and offered her some food,

Each one hoping she’d see them as kind and good.

Pride stepped first, with head held high,

“I’ll gift you not just the stars, but the whole sky.”

Strength spoke second, with a voice so deep,

“I’ll build you stairs to the sky , no matter how high or steep.”

Knowledge smirked and softly said,

“The stars are distant and cannot be reached but I can tell you about them and name them all after you instead”.

Then thunder struck, the sky turned black,

The ship was split into two with a huge crack.

All of them fell in the sea so wide,

And Love was drowning in the tide.

Pride thought to save her, but swam away,

To keep himself safe first, without any delay.

Strength mocked her for being weak and fragile,

Tried to reach her, but the current were too strong all this while.

Knowledge used a clever trick,

He tossed to her a floating stick.

But Love couldn't hold it as she was afraid,

Giving up at last, Knowledge swam away instead.

With no one left and no one near,

She drifted alone in hopelessness and fear.

Then she felt a hand in her waist so tight,

Pulling her through the stormy night.

Though waves were high and winds were strong,

He swam holding her all night long.

At dawn, they reached the golden shore,

She woke in tears, feeling alive once more.

Her parents rushed towards her, relieved and full of joy,

Hugged their daughter, their hearts lifted high.

They turned to him, the hero, their daughter’s saviour,

Asked his name; immensely grateful for his favour.

He bowed before them, so collected and calm,

Said, “I am just a no one, but they call me Time”, with a smile so warm.

Since then, through every sunset and sunrise,

Be it stormy nights or morning light,

They sat side by side everyday, playing with the sand.

Echoing, " Only Time can prove if Love is true," sticking to each other till the end.
